Old Books and Movies

  I am writing this post for The Umpteenth Blogathon Hosted by Essays from the Couch.   Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is classic musical about towns girl Millie (Jane Powell) who marries backwoodsman Adam Pontipee (Howard Keel) after a whirlwind courtship and goes to live with him and his six brothers on his farm.  Howard Keel sings "Bless Yore Beutiful Hide." Jane Powell sings "Wonderful, Wonderful Day."  Jane Powell sings "Goin' Co'tin'" and preform a fun dance number with the brothers.  The barn-raising dance is one of highlights of the movie.  The Brothers sing "Lonesome Polecat" and preform a ballet type number.  Howard Keel and the brothers sing "Sobbin' Women."  The girls sing "June Bride."  The brothers and the girls sing "Spring, Spring, Spring."  I  have seen this movie so many times so I thought it would be perfect for this blogathon; it is also the first musical I remember liking.   I am writing this post for the 6 Films 6 Decades Blogathon hosted by Classic Films & TV Cafe  https://www.classicfilmtvcafe.com/2021/03/6Films-6Decades-Blogathon.html    For the blogathon I am writing about a favorite movie from each decade 1930-1980. (I have so many favorite films, so this is only a list of some of my favorites.)     Shall We Dance (1937) with Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Edward Everett Horton, and Eric Blore.  I know Shall We Dance is not one of Fred and Ginger's more popular films, but it's one of my favorites. I love the music, the dancing, the comedy, the fashions, and the Art Deco sets.       Road To Rio (1947) with Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, and Dorothy Lamour.  This movie is just so hilarious. Bing and Bob break the forth wall multiple times.
