The Fighting Prince of Donegal (1966)

Image
This is a very fun swashbuckler movie.  Peter McEnery plays Hugh O'Donnell, an Irish prince during the 16th century, who want to unite the clans of Ireland to get the English out of Ireland.  Hugh goes to Lord McSweeney's home to try to convince him and the other clans there to band together; and to see McSweeney's daughter, Kathleen (Susan Hampshire).  Hugh convinces McSweeney and the other clans there to join together under the theory that together they can defeat the English.   Hugh is captured by the English when he and McSweeney are invited aboard what they think is a merchant ship.   Hugh escapes from prison with the help of Sean O'Toole (Donal McCann), and is captured again.  He escapes next time with the added help of Henry O'Neill (Tom Adams).  The rest of the movie is about the English capturing Donegal castle, the Irish fighting to take Donegal castle back; and the romance between Hugh and Kathleen.   The Fighting Prince of Donegal is a lot of fun.  I w

Carefree (1938) Wedding

The wedding in Carefree features an outdoor wedding, a change of grooms, and a bride with an accidental black eye.  Made in 1938 the fashions look more 1940s than 30s.   You can read my full review of this movie here: Carefree (1938) .  I wrote this post for the June 2021 Film Blogging Challenge .

The Bing Crosby Mack Sennett Shorts

Image
Between 1931 and 1933 Bing Crosby starred in six comedy short films for Mack Sennett.   The plots are all rather similar, but fun.  *Bing loves a girl.  *Her family doesn't like him, and try to get her to marry someone else.  *The comedy is slapstick.   *At the end Bing usually has to sing to prove who he is.   *There usually is a car chase.   These shorts are a lot of fun, and Bing sings some great songs in them.   I Surrender Dear (1931) Bing sings "I Surrender Dear," "Out of Nowhere,"  and "At Your Command."  Marion Sayers plays the girl he loves.   One More Chance (1931)  Bing sings a parody of "I Surrender Dear."  Bing sings "Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams," "I'd Climb the Highest Mountain, and "Just One More Chance."  Patsy O'Leary plays the girl he loves.     Dream House (1932)  Bing sings When I Take My Sugar to Tea," and "Dream House."  Ann Christy plays the girl he loves.  Billboard G
