Old Books and Movies

I am writing this post for the Legends of Western Cinema Week hosted by Along the Brandywine , Hamlette's Soliloquy , and Meanwhile in Rivendell .  The following is a couple stars who *never made a western, but it would of been fun if they did.  Fred Astaire  (*I know he made The Over-the-Hill Gang Rides Again in 1970, but I'm talking about a western from the 1930s or 1940s.) Fred Astaire visiting Randolph Scott, Glenn Ford, and Guinn "Big Boy" Williams on the set of The Desperadoes (1943)  It would of been so much fun to have Fred Astaire in a western. Fred could of been city guy, who's visiting out west, and doesn't know a thing about the west, but is acting like he does to impress a girl.  A lighthearted comedy western with dancing and singing.   David Niven   David Niven would of been another star I would of loved to see in a western.  He could've played an English man who's just inherited a ranch out in the American west.  A light...

(I have so many favorite films, so this is only a list of some of my favorites.)     Shall We Dance (1937) with Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Edward Everett Horton, and Eric Blore.  I know Shall We Dance is not one of Fred and Ginger's more popular films, but it's one of my favorites. I love the music, the dancing, the comedy, the fashions, and the Art Deco sets.       Road To Rio (1947) with Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, and Dorothy Lamour.  This movie is just so hilarious. Bing and Bob break the forth wall multiple times. Bing sings some great songs, and does a fun number with The Andrews Sisters.     Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954) with Howard Keel and Jane Powel...

 This month I am doing Inklings for the first time. It is a monthly prompt were you post a scene from a book or movie using the months prompt. The prompt for February is a snow scene in a book or film.   It is hosted by Along the Brandywine. http://ladyofanorien.blogspot.com/2021/02/inklings-february-2021.html?m=0#comment-form   Swing Time holds the distinction of being the only Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers film that has a scene with snow.   First when Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire sing "A Fine Romance;" and then once again at the end with with snow falling while Fred and Ginger sing a reprise of "A Fine Romance" and "The Way You Look Tonight."  

   This is a very funny movie.  Stephen Arden (Ralph Bellamy) stumbles in drunk to the psychiatrist office. His friend Dr. Tony Flagg (Fred Astaire) is the psychiatrist. Stephen is upset that his girlfriend, Amanda Cooper (Ginger Rogers), keeps calling off their engagement for no reason and he wants Tony to psychoanalyze her to find out why.    Amanda overhears a recording of a conversation of Tony talking about how she will likely be another one of those dizzy silly females without a mind.   Tony changes his mind about her when he meets her, but now she's mad at him and refuses to be psychoanalyzed by him.  Fred Astaire does a great dancing golf routine in "Since They Turned 'Loch Lomond' into Swing."  Unknown to Amanda while she is out cycling with Stephen and her aunt Cora (Luella Gear); Stephen invited Tony along to try to psychoanalyze her.  After Tony crashes, when his bike chain breaks, Amanda feels sorry for him and...
