For the blogathon I am writing about a favorite movie from each decade 1930-1980. (I have so many favorite films, so this is only a list of some of my favorites.)
Shall We Dance (1937) with Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Edward Everett Horton, and Eric Blore.
I know
Shall We Dance is not one of Fred and Ginger's more popular films, but it's one of my favorites. I love the music, the dancing, the comedy, the fashions, and the Art Deco sets.
Road To Rio (1947) with Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, and Dorothy Lamour.
This movie is just so hilarious. Bing and Bob break the forth wall multiple times. Bing sings some great songs, and does a fun number with The Andrews Sisters.
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954) with Howard Keel and Jane Powell.
Growing up I never liked musicals, but I did like this musical; it's funny and the song and dance scenes are a lot of fun.
Pollyanna (1960) with Hayley Mills and Jane Wyman.
This movie is just a classic.
Candleshoe (1977) with Helen Hayes, David Niven, and Jodie Foster.
The 70s has some of my favorite Disney movies, and
Candleshoe is one of them.
Anne of Green Gables (1985) with Megan Follows, Jonathon Crombie, Collen Dewhurst, and Richard Farnsworth.
This is just a really good movie. P.S. The sequel is great too.
I know too many people that haven't watched Pollyanna because it's a Disney movie with Hayley Mills...but it's such a gem. It perfectly captures small town Americana and uses its veteran supporting cast to great effect. My favorite scene is the discussion between Pollyanna and Karl Malden's stern preacher about all the "glad passages" in the Bible. Technically, Anne of Green Gables is a miniseries, but I adore it. Its lush scenery and endearing performances elevates way above all the other adaptations of L.M. Montgomery's book. I'm also a big fan of the sequel Anne of Avonlea.

I love that you chose Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Pollyanna and Anne of Green Gables for your favorites list. They are some of my favorites too. You just reminded me that it's been way too long since I watched Candleshoe. time for a re-watch.

DeleteA lot of music and fun on your list! Fred and Ginger, Bing and Bob, all those brothers - and all those brides. And who can resist Pollyanna and Anne of Green Gables? I haven't seen Candleshoe - didn't know about it - but I'm going to look for it.
