Two Stars Who I Wish Had Made a Western

Image
I am writing this post for the Legends of Western Cinema Week hosted by Along the Brandywine , Hamlette's Soliloquy , and Meanwhile in Rivendell .  The following is a couple stars who *never made a western, but it would of been fun if they did.  Fred Astaire  (*I know he made The Over-the-Hill Gang Rides Again in 1970, but I'm talking about a western from the 1930s or 1940s.) Fred Astaire visiting Randolph Scott, Glenn Ford, and Guinn "Big Boy" Williams on the set of The Desperadoes (1943)  It would of been so much fun to have Fred Astaire in a western. Fred could of been city guy, who's visiting out west, and doesn't know a thing about the west, but is acting like he does to impress a girl.  A lighthearted comedy western with dancing and singing.   David Niven   David Niven would of been another star I would of loved to see in a western.  He could've played an English man who's just inherited a ranch out in the American west.  A light...

Roy Rogers - My Favorite Western Star

Image
I am writing this post for the Legends of Western Cinema Week hosted by Along the Brandywine , Hamlette's Soliloquy , and Meanwhile in Rivendell . Roy Rogers has always been my favorite western star, so I thought I would put together a list of some of my favorite movies of his. King of the Cowboys (1943)  With Roy Rogers, Smiley Burnette, Bob Nolan and the Sons of the Pioneers, and Peggy Moran.   Roy defeats saboteurs during WWII.  The Carson City Kid (1940)  With Roy Rogers, Gabby Hayes, and Pauline Moore  Roy goes undercover as a bandit to try to find the man who killed his brother.   Billy the Kid Returns (1938)  With Roy Rogers, Smiley Burnette, and Lynne Roberts.   Roy plays a look-a-like for Billy the Kid.  Roy Rogers was also a very good singer of western songs, so I thought I would post some of my favorite songs he sang.

I am writing this post for the Legends of Western Cinema Week hosted by Along the Brandywine , Hamlette's Soliloquy , and Meanwhile in Rivendell .  1) Western movies or western TV shows?   I love both western movies and TV shows, but I guess I would probably have to say I prefer movies slightly over TV shows.   2) Funny westerns or dramatic westerns?    I guess I would have to say funny westerns, I do like some dramatic westerns, but I guess I tend to watch more of the comedy westerns or lighthearted westerns. 3) Westerns that focus on loners or westerns that focus on families?   I like both, westerns that focus on families, westerns that focus on loners; and the ones in-between, the one that doesn't focus on families, but they aren't what I would call a loner. 4) Male-centric westerns or female-centric westerns?   Male-centric westerns, I just don't think I've seen any female-centric westerns, except for the Annie Oakley s...

The Fighting Prince of Donegal (1966)

Image
This is a very fun swashbuckler movie.  Peter McEnery plays Hugh O'Donnell, an Irish prince during the 16th century, who want to unite the clans of Ireland to get the English out of Ireland.  Hugh goes to Lord McSweeney's home to try to convince him and the other clans there to band together; and to see McSweeney's daughter, Kathleen (Susan Hampshire).  Hugh convinces McSweeney and the other clans there to join together under the theory that together they can defeat the English.   Hugh is captured by the English when he and McSweeney are invited aboard what they think is a merchant ship.   Hugh escapes from prison with the help of Sean O'Toole (Donal McCann), and is captured again.  He escapes next time with the added help of Henry O'Neill (Tom Adams).  The rest of the movie is about the English capturing Donegal castle, the Irish fighting to take Donegal castle back; and the romance between Hugh and Kathleen.   The Fighting Prince of D...

Carefree (1938) Wedding

The wedding in Carefree features an outdoor wedding, a change of grooms, and a bride with an accidental black eye.  Made in 1938 the fashions look more 1940s than 30s.   You can read my full review of this movie here: Carefree (1938) .  I wrote this post for the June 2021 Film Blogging Challenge .
